This past weekend, the Richmond Strikers Rugby teams went undefeated in all of their games. Many teams played their first matrix matches of the season while the high school girls participated in the two-day DC Furies rugby tournament.
The weekend of rugby kicked off on Friday night at Dorey Park under the lights with the Varsity team taking on cross-town rival, Benedictine High School. The VCU Ram Rugby Alumni Foundation (RAMRAF) and an anonymous donor each donated a trophy for the winner of the match as well as the man of the match respectively which will be dedicated each year to the winner and man of the match. The Strikers won the match 57-5 over Benedictine and senior Jacob Ferguson took home man of the match.
The rest of the Strikers teams took the pitch on Saturday with all teams traveling to various locations in Northern Virginia. The 5th & 6th grade team and the 7th & 8th grade team travelled to play Springfield-West End/PAC. The 5th & 6th grade team won 44-5 and Kegan McCallum earned man of the match with four tries in the match. The 7th & 8th grade team won 76-17 and Kyle Smith earned man of the match with four tries.
