U16’s struggle in the blustery conditions; U18’s dominate

U16 Strikers Academy 0 – 2 U16 Empire Academy

On a windy day, Strikers created too few chances in hope of winning the game.

In a game dominated by Empire, Strikers managed to stay in it until the second half where the visitors managed to break through twice to win the game.

The first half saw an Empire team dictating the rhythm of the game with technique and precise passing. The Black and Orange managed to create very chances off corner kicks and from open play.

The best chance of the half would be for Empire in which goalkeeper Daniel Kitchen won his one and one with the Empire forward by deflecting the ball just wide of the post. From a though ball, Empire would open the scoring in the 44th minute.

The second half saw the same scenario in which Strikers players timidly tried to penetrate the sound defensive block of their opponents. With 20 minutes remaining in the game, Empire capitalized on a good ball served to the first post, to double their lead.

Final score: RSK 0-2 Empire

U18 Strikers Academy 5 – 1 U18 Empire Academy

The U18 team put in a good performance to control Empire U18.

From the first minute to the last minute, Strikers players managed to dictate the tempo and were in control, technically and tactically. In the first half, Bates took his chance in the 13th minute from 20 yards out to make it 1-0. Five minutes later, Knause sent Ownby in with a nice through ball for  the second goal of the day. Four minutes later, a crisp serve from Medairos found Bates in the air whose header finished in the back of the net. After half time, Strikers kept pressuring their opponents and Ownby would get a pass from Bates to make it 4-0 (53rd min). In the 76th minute, Bates finished well after good work by Ownby on the left flank. In the last minute of the game, Empire would take advantage of a defensive miscommunication to score a consolation goal.

Final score: RSK 5-1 Empire

Both teams return to action on Feb. 23-24 against Columbus Crew and Ohio for the last 2 games of the first part of the season.
