U-16 Game report

Bridge FA U-16 Academy 4 – 0 Richmond Strikers U-16 Academy

Traveling down to the #1 team in the conference was expected to be difficult, especially with three starters out due to injuries. Facing a slightly older team, our boys found themselves challenged physically early on in the game and never found any rhythm. Bridge FA scored the games opening goal after their forward followed up a shot deflected by goalkeeper Kitchen. Going into half time, the Strikers were trailing by one goal and were hoping to turn it on in the second half.

Two good chances from Pugh and Wright did not find the back off the net and on the contrary, Bridge FA kept the pressure on and managed to score three more goals.

The U16 Strikers Academy team is 1-3 on the season and will play their next game on November 10th at Striker Park against local rival Richmond Kickers.

Bridge FA U-18 Academy 3 – 3 Richmond Strikers U-18 Academy

The U18 Academy team was also traveling down with a diminished roster due to suspension and injuries. Nevertheless, they were hoping to grab all three points to stay at the top of the table. With two quick and deadly strikes, the U-18 boys found themselves leading 2-0 only four minutes into the game. Haboush flicked on header found the back of the net after a nice cross from Knause, and a minute later Haboush fed Anglin who headed the ball under the cross bar. It looked like Strikers were in control of the game but then Bridge FA responded with a nice shot from a difficult angle to beat goalkeeper Murray. Once again Haboush took it on himself to create more danger for the Bridge FA defense and scored a goal after receiving a pass from Curle. Right before half time, a lack of concentration from the Strikers defense led to a penalty kick for home team. Bridge FA were back in it.

The second half saw a U18 Strikers team controlling the game, creating good chances but failing to increase their lead. However, Bridge FA were pressing and closing us down all over and hit the crossbar twice following up two corner kicks. Through great hard work from the midfielders, the Strikers came close to score their fourth goal but were denied by great goalkeeping. On a quick counter attack Bridge FA tied up the score to 3-3. In the last ten minutes, the Strikers won several free-kicks and corner kicks but were unable to capitalize on any of them.

The U18 Strikers Academy team is 2-1-1 on the season and will host the Richmond Kickers on November 10th at Striker Park.

Richmond Strikers U-16 Academy 2 – 1 VA Rush U16 Academy

The U16 boys left California earlier in the week with regrets as many goal scoring chances were created but not many were put away. The players were eager to bounce back from their 0-2 weekend at the Home Depot Center.

Early in the game, the team established their tempo and pressed the Virginia Rush team. Siewers and Harvey both had good chances but failed to find the back of the net. As time passed, VA Rush started to come out and push up the field. Towards the end of the half, they executed a great counter attack to go into the break with a one goal advantage.

In second half, we kept pushing and attacking hoping to tie the game quickly. Harvey collected a through ball from Shiffman to beat the keeper with a low shot. 1-1. towards the end of the game, Harvey was fed again from a combination between Wright and Shiffman to launch a 25 yard strike into the top corner! Score 2-1. The U16 boys managed to hold on to the lead relying on great individual efforts and team work.

Richmond Strikers U-18 Academy 4 – 2 VA Rush U18 Academy

The U18 finished their California trip on a great note with a 6-2 victory over the Nomads. They wanted to confirm that performance against Virginia rush. Early on, the Strikers players established their game to force the Virginia Rush U18 team to defend a lot. They confirmed their domination after 27 minutes when Ownby collected a ball from Anglin to put the Strikers ahead. 8 minutes later Bates was adding a goal to the scoreboard through a pass from Ownby. A few minutes later, Ownby scored his second of the day (7th of the week!) assisted by Medairos. Just before halftime, the Strikers let their guard down and saw Virginia Rush reduce the deficit to 3-1.

In the second half, Bates added a fourth goal for the Strikers after receiving a pass from Wharton. An own goal at the 60th minute changed the score to 4-2. The last 20 minutes saw Virginia Rush pressing the Strikers who were reduced to ten men; however, there were to be no more goals in the game.
