ADVANCED DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
ADP
2008-2009
The ADP
program is what links the recreational side of the
Richmond Strikers Soccer Club and the travel side. It
is a program offered to our younger players in order for
them to be exposed to a better soccer environment that
will enhance their skills and their approach to the
game. The program is a year long program with the
primary objective being to introduce the players to the
fundamental technical skills and training habits
required for playing soccer at a competitive (travel)
level.
All
players must go through a try-out process to be selected
as an ADP player. The try-outs for the 2008-2009 season
will be held June 9th and 11th at Striker Park. It is
recommended that players attend both sessions. All
players must register for try-outs:

Training
sessions are held twice a week for 1 ˝ hours each
session. All training sessions are conducted by
licensed and professional soccer coaches. Players are
expected to attend all training sessions and games.
While it is understood that some children play more than
one sport, it is expected that at this level, soccer be
considered the sport with the highest priority.
Training is focused on preparing and molding each player
to practice the sound training habits necessary for
excelling at the competitive youth level. The ultimate
goal is to have all players performing the introductory
level skills in a game situation.
The
majority of matches will be scheduled on Saturdays and
all matches will be coached by Richmond Striker ADP
coaches. While the objective of both the coaches and
the players is to win the game when the team steps onto
the field, the first and foremost objective is to
implement the specific skills and techniques that have
been practiced during the week. While the
aforementioned is a primary goal, our ultimate focus is
to increase the player’s knowledge and skill of the
game, allowing each individual to progress, in the
competitive arena, towards the level of competition to
which the player aspires.
During
the fall, as well as the spring season, the players will
focus on the development of elementary skills dealing
with striking the ball, receiving techniques and
individual ball control techniques. In keeping with
this approach, the group of players will be divided into
equal teams. During the fall season the ADP players
will be scheduled to play their matches against U9
recreational players and in the spring their matches
will be scheduled against U10 recreational players.
In
addition, new for the 2008-2009 season, ADP teams will
attend a tournament at the end of the spring season.
