Congratulations to the 2007 VCCL champions!

Congratulations to the U-17 Boys Elite, U-12 Girls  Elite, U-13 Girls Elite and U-18 Girls Elite for winning the championship in their respective VCCL divisions!

With a record of three wins, two draws and one loss, the U-17 Boys Elite, coached by Anthony Sherwood, clinched the regular season on the penultimate weekend of VCCL play.

Coach Sherwood, in his eleventh year of coaching at the club, elaborated on what his goals have been for the group, “I have placed a tremendous amount of expectation on the players and as a team, we are continually working towards the goal of playing an attractive style of soccer while also being as competitive as possible in every game. There are days when our soccer is of a high quality, however, we don’t get the desired result, and of course, there are those days where we don’t play that well but manage to grind out the result. As a team, we are trying to find that balance of playing well and getting the result. The boys have a strong training mentality, which ultimately, will determine how far they go as individuals and as a team.”

Coached by Kelley Schmidt and Chris Friant, the U-18 Girls Elite continued their complete dominance in the VCCL with six wins and only one defeat. The girls have only lost two VCCL regular season games since U-12 picking up ten VCCL titles along the way! The U-18 girls have proven to be one of the top teams in the clubs history! Well done ladies!

Kelley Schmidt had this to say about the group, “After a kind of a slow start to the season and despite many injuries during the season to key players the girls worked extremely hard to accomplish their 10th VCCL Championship.”

With a very impressive record of six wins and only one loss, the U-13 Girls Elite clinched the VCCL title on the last day of games with a 1-0 win against SOCA. This comes on the back of a last place finish in the previous VCCL campaign….well done girls, what a turnaround! Danny Salmon, coach of the U-13 team, has done a fantastic job with the girls and his impact is clearly evident with these results.

Danny had this to say about the team, “These young ladies are a credit to the club; they have tremendous passion for the game that we all love. The talented group was formed from the combination of our three U-12 Strikers teams last year and each of those teams coach’s Erwan, Mike, Lindsey and Summer have contributed greatly to our success this season. I am fortunate and grateful to be associated with this group of players”

Also with a record of six wins and only one defeat, the U-12 Girls Elite team, coached by Brian Griffin won the final game vs. SOCA to clinch the VCCL regular season title.

On the team’s achievement and its potential, Brian says, “The girls are a very talented group who work extremely hard for each other. Through their hard work and dedication, we have improved as individuals and as a team. The girls are now a cohesive unit who are a pleasure to coach. If they keep up their drive, they can become a very strong team year in and year out; the sky is the limit”

Again, congratulations to all the VCCL champions and we look forward to another great spring campaign in 2008 when the U-11 through U-14 teams will be in action!
